Dance at Bennington College: 80 Years of Moving Through

September 12 - November 29, 2014

In 1934, the college established a summer school and invited Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, and Hanya Holm to teach, create, and perform. America's first home for dance was thereby established and this tradition continues today. Historic photographs will be drawn from Bennington's archives featuring seminal figures in the development of American modern and post-modern dance.

The following "Talking Dance" lectures are scheduled during the exhibition:

  • Friday, September 12, 5:30 to 8 pm
Opening Reception and discussion with Bennington College dance professors Dana Rietz and Terry Creach and 麻豆传媒社区 Executive Director John Killacky, illustrating the history of dance at Bennington.

  • Thursday, November 6 at 6 pm
Pre-performance () discussion with Stowe-based choreographer Polly Motley and dancer Steve Paxton.

  • Friday, November 21 at 6:30 pm
